A Romantic City Break: Week-End Venice

Italy is known for many beautiful cities, but Venice has a reputation of being one of the most beautiful of them all. If you like historic buildings, monuments and museums, and if you enjoy arts and culture, a week-end Venise is a great choice for your next city break in Europe.

The Famous Venice Canals

Venice is famous for its canals. The city is spread over more than a hundred islands that are connected by canals and historic bridges that cross the waterways. The traditional way to move around the city was the gondola (a rowing boat), but today most locals and visitors use public water buses. These are the cheapest and easiest way to move from one place to another. There are also private water taxis and they can be faster than the water buses.

Traditional gondolas still operate on the canals, but most of them take tourists on organized sightseeing tours. A trip on a gondola can be a nice way to see parts of the city. Most traffic in Venice is on the canals, and if you do not take a water bus or a water taxi, you are going to have to walk. Venice is a great city for walking and if you take your time walking around, you will see beautiful architecture from centuries ago.

Historical Attractions in Venice

Venice is known for its churches, its squares and its bridges. The most famous bridge is the Rialto Bridge that has more than 800 years of history. The most famous square is Piazza San Marco, the home of the Basilica di San Marco, probably the most well-known of all the historical churches in Venice.

Venice has a long history. It was an important power in medieval Europe, and it was also a major trading center for hundreds of years. Spices, silk and other valuable items came from the Silk Road through Arab traders into Venice, and Venetian traders sold the items on to Europe. Venice was also famous for its arts from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance period, and art and architecture from the Renaissance period belong to important tourist attractions in the city.

The Venice Carnival

The Carnival of Venice is a major tourist attraction. Visitors come from around Europe and around the world to witness the event. The Carnival is held every year around February, and if you are planning your week-end Venise during this festival, it is highly recommended that you book your accommodation as far in advance as possible. All the best hotels get fully booked in advance and hotels also increase their rates for the event. However, it is also one of the most exciting times to be in Venice.

A Dream Wedding at Dreams Palm Beach

For the longest I planned without a doubt to get married traditionally. But Dreams Palm Beach changed my mind once I had done research for honeymoon destinations. I found it to be the perfect fit because of the luxury features and services included for all guests as some of my family members and friends would be traveling to Punta Cana to attend the wedding ceremony and reception.

It was a little girl’s dream wedding come true and I loved the backdrop of the lovely crystal, turquoise sea and palm trees. I loved how the velvety sand felt beneath my feet. I loved the intimacy the location provided, and everyone found the atmosphere stunning.

Though I’d never visited the Dominican Republic, I will plug Dreams Palm Beach as one of the best Punta Cana hotels. Once there, my family, friends and I were greeted and treated as VIP. The aura of the resort made us feel regal as we’d never been to anything like it before. It felt like a scene out of a book or movie.
